Parish Council Meeting Minutes

Tuesday,  November 9,  2010 at 7:05 PM

In attendance:  Father Jim, Mary Breslen, Michael Gadway, Mariann Miller,  Renee Beaupre-White, Maurice Ouimet, Dominic Amerio, Lynne Gorman, and Jane Schraff

 Absent:  No one.

Father opened the meeting with a prayer at 7:05 PM

Michael made a motion to accept the minutes of  October 12, 2010.  Dominic seconded the motion.

 OLD BUSINESS:

Cookbook Update:  We have sold over 100 books so far.  We’ve made enough to pay the company for printing them and now any more that are sold will be profit.  Wooden Solider and Elegant Flowers are selling them for us also.  Less than 100 are left.

Pot Luck Supper & Movie:  About 12-14 have signed up.  Stage needs to be cleared enough for screen to be set up.  Movie choices will be reviewed to make sure they don’t run too long.

Bishop Fund Drive:  We ended up in the high 70%  of our parish goal.  Talking with other parishes, that’s not too bad with the way the economy is.

Religious Education Program:   Jane is pleased with the children they have and hope they will continue to come.  Food drive is November 21, kids will go door to door for the food shelf for the Thanksgiving baskets that Fair Haven Concerned does.   She has also been working on the “Christian Chastity Program” that has to be done each year.

Youth Committee:    Again, on hold until Jane and Father feel better.

Mass Time Change:  Several parishioners have thanked Father for the change.  Mary suggested to have a “phone message distribution” recording done to all the parish members stating the new times for Mass and confessions on Saturday.  Also, make sure all the media  publications are notified of the Mass time change.

Basket Raffle:  A date of March 5, 2001 has been decided.  Mariann will have a notice put in the bulletin to let parishioners know about it so they can have plenty of time to shop!

Bazaar Update:  Jane reports that it’s going along nicely.  Local businesses have been very receptive again this year.  Will try to get raffle tickets printed up and ready to sell.  Volunteers are marking items on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:00 PM

 NEW BUSINESS:

“Reach Out” to non-practicing parishioners program:  Father is calling it “Catholics Come Home.”  Will start with a letter and phone call to people who are not practicing, make them aware that we are here, that they’re important, feel welcome to reconnect.  Father Romano gave Father Jim some “example letters” to build off from.   Lynne, Mariann and Renee will be the committee to get the letters out and do some calls with a prepared script.

Space heaters:    Father said they’ve decided, as in the past, to use space heaters instead of turning up the furnace in the rectory.  A couple of new ones have been purchased, and there is also one in use in the chapel.

Christmas Schedule:  We have to do our schedule -- West Pawlet has requested a Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00 PM.  Maybe ours will be at 6 or 6:30 PM.

Catholic Daughters Mass & Meeting:  Mariann said about 30 people have signed up for dinner. State Regent will do a presentation about the Divine Mercy (a devotion).

Fair Haven Concerned:  Julie spoke with Father about using the gym to distribute food baskets along with the Knights distributing the “Toys for Joy” on  December 13. She expressed thanks for the parish’s generosity for the use of the office, etc.

 OTHER BUSINESS:

Registration Forms:   Will keep trying to get people to fill them in.  Maybe 70 have handed them in so far.  We may try handing them out in church again and ask people to just fill in the “basics” right there at church and hand them back in then.  Remarks have been heard that it’s too much information wanted.

Closed with a prayer at 8:00 PM

NEXT MEETING:  Tuesday,  December 7, at 7:05 PM

 Respectfully submitted,

 Mary Breslen

Secretary
